Hard Drive Recovery
 If you use a hard drive, one thing is certain: over time it will
fail. Studies show that on average about 2-3% of hard drives fail each
year. That's why it's important to have a good backup plan so the
impact of a catastrophic hard drive failure to you or your organization
is minimized. We recommend that on a regular basis
you make at least 2 backups of your files and keep these in two different locations. You can use hard drives, cloud storage, network storage, CD/DVDs or other media/storage methods. With the convenience of
Internet storage, and USB/Firewire plug-and-play connections, it's a small price to pay to avoid big problems later.

needed to avoid the agony and frustration of losing precious data.
Still, if your backup plan was not up-to-date - or your backup itself

If your data cannot be recovered using this indirect, non-invasive method, another option is hardware recovery. In this case the drive is physically opened to access the platters directly. A cleanroom is used to replace and/or repair defective components, than an attempt is then made to get a clean image of the drive. If an image can be made, the files are extracted from the imaged drive and the recovery proceeds. The cost for this type of recovery ranges from $450 to $850 depending on the size of the drive and its capacity.
